A FEW MILES FROM ROME A MAGICAL “BORGO” CANALE MONTERANO AND ITS NATIVITY CRIB
The mediaval living manger is an event set in the splendid scenery of Monterano thanks to the collaboration with the Rione Monti di Bracciano. In September 2012 the idea was born to revive the dead city of Monterano in all its glory.
The thought was to represent in the Christmas context and then the “nativity” with a typical market day set in the late 1400s, when the ancient kingdom was a possession of the Orsini family. The peculiarity of this event is therefore to set it in the late middle ages beginning of the renaissance.
Unlike all the various living nativities that are organized in this period they have tried to recreate a magical environment and reliving our ancient village as we have never seen, but always dreamed of!
In this context many figures are represented who participate in daily life during that period. Arts and crafts, nobles, knights, armies and above all the people who are struggling to make ends meet. The idea is to recreate a cross section of the middle ages, and the suggestion is to immortalize these moments especially by photographing the fountain of the lion; for which for the occasion resurects life and the convent of San Bonaventura with the other Fontana always by Bernini, on the design of maestro Gian Lorenzo Bernini, the “Fountain of the Lion” was created by Mastro Mattia de ‘Rossi in 1660, when the ownership of the kingdom passed to the Altieri family; it is from the end of the 1700s, the date of the abandonment of Monterano, that the lion’s fountain is no longer shown in all its beauty.
