4 days – 3 nights from Thessaloniki – Small Group
Day 1: Thessaloniki – Pella – Edessa – Naousa – Veroia
Morning departure for Pella, the ancient capital of Macedonia and birthplace of Alexander the Great. Continue the tour to the town of Edessa (also called the town of waters, with its 100 bridges). The natural park of the waterfalls with the most spectacular waterfall in the Balkans (70m high). Next stop Naousa for wine tasting, the area is known for its wineries. Some free time in Agios Nikolaos to enjoy nature or taste local dishes. Later we drive to Veroia where we will have dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Vergina – Dion – Mount Olympus – Litochoro
Breakfast at the hotel and depart for Vergina , once the capital of the Macedonian Kingdom and nowadays one of the most important archeological sites of Greece. Visit of the museum with the Royal Tomb of King Philip II, father of Alexander the Great. Continue to Dion the religious center of the Ancient Macedonians dedicated to the worship of Olympian Zeus, situated at the footsteps of the famous Mount Olympus, the mythical home of the 12 gods. In Dion, Alexander the Great offered rich sacrifices to the gods before leaving for his legendary expedition to Asia. Visit of the archaeological site and the museum. Afterwards, we approach the mountain Olympus, the highest Greek mountain. We continue to the traditional village of Litochoro in the afternoon where we will have dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Meteora – Kalambaka – Delphi
Breakfast and drive to Kalambaka to visit the Meteora Monasteries. Meteora is a geological miracle, which one should see for himself to believe. Nowadays, only six monasteries are well preserved and four of them are still inhabited. We shall visit 2 of these fabulous monasteries, built high upon the steep rocks. Each monastery owns a vast richness of frescoes and icons. Afterward, we will spend some time in Kalambaka for a coffee or lunch before we leave for Delphi, our next destination. Dinner and overnight in Delphi. IMPORTANT NOTICE: For entering the monasteries of Meteora, appropriate clothing is required. The entrance for ladies is only allowed in skirt or dress, under the knee, shoulder and belly covered. Men in long trousers.
Day 4: Delphi – Thessaloniki
Breakfast at the hotel and begin the tour which visits the archaeological site and museum of Delphi. Famous for its Theatre, Temple of Apollo and ancient ruins, Delphi was considered the center of the earth and the universe and played a central role in the classical Greek world. Later, short stop for lunch on the way back to Thessaloniki.
