Hanbury Gardens are situated on a little promontory near the French border. These dazzling botanical gardens feature over 6000 plants worldwide and are ranked among the most beautiful in Europe. A section of the Aurelian Road, which linked Rome to France, crosses the grounds. Not far from here, Dolceacqua is delightfully nestled in a valley, dominated by an ancient castle with charming views. Its single-span masonry bridge may look familiar to art lovers: in 1884, Claude Monet, who made a solo travel in this area, deemed it light and powerful enough to be the subject of some of his paintings. While in Dolceacqua, a wine and local produce tasting will perfect the day’s enjoyment.
