Something you may want to know
Gastronomy, fine wines accompany the rich dishes of Langhe tradition: countless antipasti, typical fresh egg pastas like tajarin and “plin” ravioli, raw Fassone beef, PDO cheeses, desserts based on PGI Piedmont hazelnuts and, of course, Tuber magnatum Pico, the Alba white truffle.
Wineries The vineyards provide the grapes used to make some of the world’s best wines: noble Barolo and Barbaresco, the younger Barbera and sparkling Moscato, along with many other varieties that make the Langhe and Roero a true enological heritage site for humanity. Lovers of wine culture can take advantage of a call centre Piemonte on Wine, for booking winery visits. Piemonte on Wine also offers the services of Wine Tellers, experts able not only to share their knowledge about viticulture and enology but also to make the subject accessible to both connoisseurs and novice wine enthusiasts using stories and games.
White Truffle Fair of Alba 2017 will take place from October 7 to November 26 and the Palio degli Asini on October 1st.
The Donkey Palio, which is held on the first Sunday of October, is a goliardic moment, but also a day of strong tourist attraction. Over a thousand participants, including noble ladies, knights, armed soldiers, peasants and farmers, parading along the streets of the city centre in-between fanfare, trumpets and drum rolls alongside banners and flags, before getting excited for the long-awaited Palio.
